The World's Current Take

Zelensky's Response and Resistance

According to him, Putin only needs the capitulation of Ukraine.

"But the situation has changed now, because Trump unknowingly used Putin's weak point. Why unknowingly? The idea of the Tomahawk did not come from the Americans - it was brought to the meeting with Trump by Ukrainian President Zelensky. Zelensky is the one who told Trump about Tomahawks, which Trump had heard about, but certainly did not think about in this context: that it has missiles that are of a certain value for Ukraine and represent a threat to Russia," the statement said.

The political scientist emphasized that Russians became hysterical when the story about Tomahawk started gaining popularity.

"First they released Medvedev, then other officials, so Putin threatened that Russian-American relations would be destroyed if Ukraine received Tomahawks. And finally, Putin himself called Trump to explain that Tomahawks will not change anything, but urged him not to give them to Ukraine because it would destroy relations between Washington and Moscow," he emphasized.

In his opinion, the United States has a very serious argument with which it can put pressure on Russia.

"I don't know how the Russians will get out of this. In the next two weeks, we will be bombarded with a tsunami of all kinds of dirt about Tomahawk, negotiations and so on. But Trump now has an argument to put pressure on Putin. How he will play this card, we don't know," Oleschuk noted.

How could a meeting between Trump and Putin take place?

The political scientist recalled that the Financial Times wrote that Putin turned his first meeting with Trump into a historical lecture about Rurik, Yaroslav Mudra and Bogdan Khmelnitsky.

In his opinion, Putin could try to repeat this during the second meeting, because he continues to live in the world of his ideas, concepts and"united nations".

"If so, it is unlikely that this meeting will lead to any agreements. But there is another nuance: the meeting between Trump and Putin in Budapest must be preceded by meetings at the level of a diplomatic delegation, and the US delegation will be led by Marco Rubio. Trump has apparently finally realized that the hope of simply meeting with Putin and solving everything is futile. It does not work with Putin, so some preliminary work, a project and an agenda are needed. That is what should be done now that the relevant delegations work," he added.

Oleščuk believes that everything could fail at this stage, because it is quite possible that no preliminary work will be done, and then the meeting will not take place.

"For now, we see that Trump's position, which was formulated after his meeting with the Ukrainian president, boils down to this: stay where you are," the expert concluded.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that US President Donald Trump did not say"yes" to the delivery of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, but he did not say definitely"no" either.

According to him, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is sincerely afraid that Ukraine will use Tomahawk missiles on Russian territory.

As reported by Glavred, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the war in Ukraine has begun to end. He stated that a strong political demand for ending the war is already emerging in international negotiations.

US President Donald Trump said that Putin already has"certain assets" in Ukraine that he will confiscate after the war.

White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said Trump is now"working hard to achieve peace." She said that both Moscow and Kiev should "accept reality and reach an agreement" and that the United States is already "tired of this war".
