The World's Current Take

At a pivotal moment in the history of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Egypt's position stands out as one of the clearest and most decisive regional positions, whether politically, diplomatically, or humanitarianly. Egypt has combined its categorical rejection of the Israeli military escalation in the Gaza Strip with its continued support for international efforts aimed at recognizing the Palestinian state, reflecting Egypt's unwavering vision, which is based on the principles of international law and international legitimacy resolutions.

Since the beginning of the latest escalation, Egypt has continued its efforts to broker ceasefire agreements and mediate between the conflicting parties. However, what distinguishes the current situation is the clarity of the language and the intensity of the tone in describing what is happening in Gaza as genocide, linking this to an attempt to liquidate the Palestinian cause politically and geographically.

Egypt did not limit itself to condemning Israeli violations, but rather actively sought to employ its diplomatic and regional tools to halt the war machine, drawing on its historical experience as a key mediator in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

At the diplomatic level, Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel-Ati led active efforts in several areas to consolidate Egypt's position. During his call with his German counterpart, Abdel-Ati emphasized Egypt's categorical rejection of the Israeli cabinet's decision to expand military operations in Gaza, considering it a step that would perpetuate the occupation and open the door to further deterioration and instability. He stressed that the policy of starvation and systematic killing of Palestinians represents a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, reiterating Egypt's complete rejection of the displacement of Palestinians from their land. From here, it becomes clear that the Egyptian position at this stage is characterized by a three-pronged approach: First, regarding the political track, Egypt rejects any arrangements that undermine the unity of the Palestinian territory or seek to displace the residents of Gaza and the West Bank, while stressing the need to reach a just political solution in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Second, the humanitarian track related to insisting on bringing in aid through the Rafah crossing despite Israeli obstacles, and working to provide most of the relief support to Gaza. Third, the diplomatic track represented by mobilizing international positions that reject escalation, and supporting efforts towards recognizing the Palestinian state as a strategic step to end the occupation.

With this balanced strategy, Egypt has proven that it is not merely a traditional mediator, but rather a regional and international player seeking to reshape the contours of a political solution to the conflict, based on the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and rejecting the dictates imposed by the logic of force. At a time when the unified Arab voice is declining, Egypt remains at the heart of the international movement, pushing for a just peace and confronting attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause under the guise of war.
