Russia-China Joint Military Exercises

"So, as strange as it may be, could Trump's latest submarine deployment be a harbinger of a US-Russia summit? I wouldn't draw such far-sighted conclusions," says journalist Rosenberg.

However, the reaction of the Russian authorities was interesting.

"There is no statement yet. Not from the Kremlin. Not from the Russian Foreign Ministry. Not from the Defense Ministry. And I have not seen any reports of Russian nuclear submarines being deployed closer to America."

"This suggests that either Moscow is still assessing the situation and deciding what to do, or Moscow does not consider it necessary to react," says a BBC journalist.

The aforementioned reaction of the Russian press suggests that this is the second option, Rosenbergs summarizes.

It has already been reported that Trump announced on Friday, August 1, that he had ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines in response to Medvedev's comments.

"Based on the extremely provocative statements made by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, I have ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines to the relevant regions in case these foolish and provocative statements turn out to be anything more," Trump said on his Truth Social platform.

"Words are very important and can often have unintended consequences, I hope this is not one of those cases," Trump said.

Trump did not say whether he meant nuclear submarines or nuclear-armed submarines. Nor did he reveal their locations, which the US military keeps secret.

Medvedev sharply criticized Trump's threat of new sanctions against Russia over the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Accusing Trump of"playing ultimatums," he wrote on Platform X that Trump "should remember" that Russia is a formidable force.
