[Reporter Xu Shiying/Comprehensive Report] Robert Redford, the legendary Hollywood filmmaker who once swept the world with his handsome appearance and won the Oscar for Best Director for directing"Ordinary People", passed away peacefully at his home in Sundance, Utah on September 16, US time, at the age of 89.

Cindi Berger, CEO of public relations firm Rogers & Cowan PMK, confirmed the death to foreign media and said Robert Redford passed away in his favorite place, surrounded by his family."He will be deeply missed. His family also requests privacy." He left behind his wife Sibylle Szaggars, two children and several grandchildren.
Born in Santa Monica, California in 1936, Robert Redford initially aspired to be a painter before studying acting in New York and entering the entertainment industry. He established his screen stardom with iconic roles in"Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "The Way We Were," and "The Untold Story." During his golden age in the 1970s, his blond good looks and sunny smile made him a box office draw, a star whose brilliance was unmatched.
In 1980, Robert Redford, having already made his acting debut, won the Academy Award for Best Director for his debut film,"Ordinary People." He then founded the Sundance Film Festival Association in 1981, promoting the independent film revolution and making the Sundance Film Festival one of the most important film festivals in the United States.
Robert Redford's acting career spanned 60 years. In 2018, he starred in"The Old Man and the Gun" and said that it would be his last work. He also emphasized that he would not consider"retirement". His last big screen performance was in 2019's"Avengers: Endgame", in which he re-starred as the villain Secretary of State Alexander Pierce, whom he played in"Captain America: The Winter Soldier".
In addition to his on-screen work, he also left behind a legacy as a director and producer for films like"A River Runs Through It," "The Puzzle," and "Return of Glory." In a 2018 interview with CBS's "Sunday Morning," he said,"For me, retirement means stopping something or letting go of something. But life is still here, so why not live it to the fullest?" His sudden passing yesterday left fans deeply saddened.
