Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, ahead of the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15, where the US and Russian presidents will raise the issue of the war in Ukraine.
According to a statement from the Turkish Presidency's Communications Directorate, Tayyip Erdogan stated that Turkey is ready to host a meeting at the leadership level and that he believes that the establishment of working groups in the areas of military, humanitarian and political cooperation will pave the way for such a summit.
President Erdogan also noted that he considers the progress achieved in the direct talks between Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Istanbul to be significant and expressed hope that significant results will be achieved in the next rounds for a ceasefire agreement, which will lead to permanent peace.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey continues to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
According to the Turkish Presidency's Communications Directorate, the telephone conversation between the two presidents took place at Zelensky's request.
