Puerto Iguazú led the national ranking of visitors to accommodations in May, and registered an occupancy rate of 44.1%, above the national average, according to a report released by Indec. Posadas also stood out, with more than 12,000 tourists and an average stay of 1.9 nights, consolidating Misiones as one of the provinces with the greatest tourist dynamism.
The Misiones town of Puerto Iguazú, with its iconic Iguazú Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, once again stood out as the country's most visited tourist destination in May 2025, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey published this Monday by INDEC.
With a total of 50,183 travelers staying, it surpassed established destinations such as Mar del Plata (43,691), Mendoza (41,797), Salta (36,386) and Rosario (35,147), and was at the top nationally.
Of the total number of tourists staying in Puerto Iguazú in May, 41,766 were Argentine residents and 8,417 were non-residents, confirming its appeal to both domestic and international tourism, according to the report.
Furthermore, this Misiones town recorded a room occupancy rate of 44.1%, which not only places it above the average for the Litoral and the provinces, which was 38.7% and 34.4% respectively, but also among the highest among all national destinations.
In this context, it recorded 126,078 overnight stays in May, of which 85% were residents and 15% were foreign tourists. The average stay was 2.5 nights, also above the national average of 2.1 nights, and one of the highest among the country's major destinations.
Posadas, also among the top destinations
Meanwhile, Posadas also showed an outstanding performance. The capital of Misiones welcomed 12,586 travelers in May, of whom 11,431 were residents and 1,155 were non-residents. Thus, it surpassed several provincial capitals in terms of visitors, such as Formosa (5,653), Resistencia (11,046), and San Luis (7,382).
This tourist influx in Posadas generated a total of 23,909 overnight stays, with an average stay of 1.9 nights.
In regional terms, the Litoral region as a whole - where Misiones is located - ranked third in terms of travelers accommodated (216,439), behind CABA (303,251) and ahead of Patagonia (193,687).
Furthermore, the Litoral region led the year-over-year growth in the number of domestic tourists staying, with a 24.3% increase compared to May 2024.
Nationwide, hotels and non-hotel establishments accommodated a total of 1,228,771 people, representing a 10.9% increase compared to the same month last year. Residents accounted for 81% of the total, a segment that grew 14.7% year-over-year, while non-resident travelers decreased by 3.1%.
