Ukraine is expected to have accepted a peace agreement proposed by the US, with details "yet to be defined."

Tuesday, November 25

Ukraine has reportedly accepted the US-proposed peace plan to end the conflict that has plagued Europe for almost four years, according to a US government source cited by CBS and ABC News. A number of details remain to be discussed, but Ukrainian authorities have already accepted the general framework of the proposal, although there has been no reaction yet from Russia.

ABC News reports that the plan proposed by Washington, which initially had 28 points, has been reduced to just 19, omitting limitations on the size of the Ukrainian army and an amnesty for acts committed during the war. Russian, Ukrainian, and American delegations are meeting in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, to discuss a potential ceasefire, following the meeting between Kiev and Washington in Geneva over the weekend.

In a social media post, Ukraine's National Security Secretary, Rustem Umerov, expressed his willingness to organize a visit by Volodymyr Zelensky to Washington to finalize outstanding details with Donald Trump – something that could happen even before the end of November.

On Monday, U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll met with the Russian delegation, and talks extended into Tuesday. A government source told CBS News that Driscoll is"optimistic" about the negotiations with Moscow representatives, although there is still no official reaction."This is moving fast," he said.

In a press conference this morning, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia will not reveal any information before the three parties formally reach an agreement, hoping that"the US will inform [Moscow] of the results of the negotiations with Ukraine and Europe in the short term."

Last week, the US presented a 28-point plan to Ukraine as a starting point for a ceasefire and the beginning of a potential peace process between the country and Russia. But as soon as the plan became known, negative reactions quickly emerged – both from Kiev and from European countries, since the proposal included the cession of territory, the reduction of the army, and Ukraine's renunciation of NATO membership. And without the country having been directly consulted in the drafting of this plan.

Peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine have seen several advances and setbacks, but this is the first time the Americans have reached an agreement with Kiev. Ending the conflict in Europe was one of Donald Trump's major campaign promises, and he has repeatedly admitted to being"frustrated" with the leaders of both countries. Recently, the US imposed sanctions on Russia's two largest oil companies, which came into effect on Friday, in an attempt to cut off Russian sources of funding for the war.
