247 - Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), decreed this Monday (4) the house arrest of former president Jair Bolsonaro.
In view of the repeated failure to comply with previously imposed precautionary measures, the judge justified the order of house arrest.
The measure was determined after the breach of the precautionary measure that prevented Bolsonaro, defendant in the coup plot, from using third party social media.
On Sunday (3), during the far-right demonstrations held across the country, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), son of the former president, published a video on his social media with his father's demonstration.
In his decision, the minister highlighted that Flávio and two other sons of the former president, Carlos and Eduardo, published on their social media posts thanking Bolsonaro's supporters who attended the events.
Thus, according to Moraes, there was a failure to comply with the restrictions previously determined.
"As I have emphasized several times in the Presidency of the SUPERIOR ELECTORAL COURT, JUSTICE IS BLIND, BUT IT IS NOT FOOLISH!!!!!", wrote Moraes."It must be complied with urgently," concluded the minister, when ordering house arrest.
Moraes therefore ordered Bolsonaro to serve his sentence under house arrest at his home address. The ruling includes:
- Use of electronic ankle bracelets;
prohibition of visits, except by close family members and attorneys;
seizure of all cell phones on site.
In a statement, the Federal Police stated that it carried out a house arrest warrant and a search and seizure warrant for cell phones, in accordance with the STF decision.
The precautionary measures were ordered in the investigation in which Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of the former president, is being investigated for his actions alongside the government of United States President Donald Trump, to promote retaliatory measures against the Brazilian government and Supreme Court justices and to try to block the progress of the criminal action regarding the coup plot.
