Through a message on her X account, the representative to the United States House, María Elvira Salazar, spoke about the ruling that returned freedom to former Colombian president Álvaro Uribe Vélez, after resolving a tutela action presented by the former president's defense.
“Uribe is free, the truth endures! It's not the end of the case, but it is a victory against the political persecution that sought to deprive him of his sacred freedom. The left could not imprison the man who saved Colombia. Uribe remains steadfast. Petro, increasingly alone,” said the House representative from the state of Florida.

On other occasions, the congresswoman had already defended the former president. For example, when the first ruling against Álvaro Uribe was issued, she defended him and attacked President Gustavo Petro in the process."They won't forgive Álvaro Uribe for defeating the FARC, restoring security to the Colombian people, and saving the nation from kidnapping, extortion, and terror," Salazar said in the message posted on social media.
“He gave Colombia back hope, order, and progress. He governed with firmness, vision, and love for his country. That's why millions rightly call him the great Colombian,” the Republican congresswoman continued. After endorsing former President Uribe and confirming that “he is not alone.”
