American conservative activist and influencer Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University. Kirk's death was confirmed by US President Donald Trump himself.

The information was reported by CNN."The great, even legendary, Charlie Kirk is dead," Trump wrote on Truth Social. Trump also ordered"all American flags" to be flown at half-staff by Sunday evening in honor of Kirk,"a truly great American patriot."
"No one understood the youth of the United States better or won their hearts more than Charlie. He was loved and admired by everyone, especially me, and now he is no longer with us," Trump wrote.
Video circulating on social media shows Kirk sitting on an outdoor stage giving a speech to a large crowd at Utah Valley University in Orem when the shot rings out. Kirk briefly puts his hand to his neck, which is bleeding profusely, before falling from his chair. Shocked spectators scream and run.
A university spokesman said police had not yet arrested a suspect. Shortly after the shooting, the school reported that a single shot had been fired from a nearby building and one person had been taken into custody, but AP sources said it was not the shooter. The city's mayor said authorities were still searching for the shooter. Investigators have not yet identified the suspect in Kirk's shooting, according to CNN. Social media videos showed officers combing buildings, including rooftops, in an effort to gather evidence, including possible shell casings.

Former US President Joe Biden also responded to Kirk's death, calling for an end to political violence."There is no place for this kind of violence in our country. It must end now," Biden said in a post on X."Jill and I are praying for the family and loved ones of Charlie Kirk."
Kirk was taken to the hospital, where he was in critical condition, according to an AP source. Kirk, 31, was an influential ally of President Trump and co-founder of Turning Point USA, the largest conservative youth organization in the country.
"We confirm he was shot and we are praying for Charlie," Turning Point USA spokeswoman Aubrey Laitsch told the AP.
Local television station KSL-TV aired video of an elderly man in a blue shirt being led away by police after the attack. Attorney General Pam Bondi told the X network that FBI agents were at the scene.

Kirk and Turning Point USA played a key role in the youth-led support for Trump in last November's presidential election. His appearances on college campuses across the country routinely draw large crowds. Kirk is a prominent voice in the conservative movement: he has 5.2 million subscribers on the X network and hosts the popular podcast and radio program The Charlie Kirk Show. He also recently became a co-host of"Fox & Friends" on Fox News.
