China held a grand military parade today (the 3rd) in Tiananmen Square in Beijing to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Not only was the parade a show of force, but it also invited the heads of state of 26 countries to attend. A rare photo opportunity featuring Xi Jinping, Putin, and Kim Jong-un sparked heated discussion. Meanwhile, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) also spoke out in the evening, highlighting the history of the Flying Tigers and the Republic of China Air Force fighting side by side in the war, emphasizing that"their sacrifice not only saved countless lives but also forged the deep friendship and solidarity that exists between the two sides to this day."

AIT Director General Gu Liyan stated,"As we commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, we pay tribute to the countless brave men and women who sacrificed their lives on the battlefields. Among them, the Flying Tigers exemplify this spirit of fearless self-sacrifice and unwavering courage. This aviation unit, composed of American volunteers, fought side by side with the Republic of China Air Force against fascism. Their sacrifice not only saved countless lives but also forged the deep friendship and solidarity that exists between the two sides to this day."

He continued,"A few months ago, it was with great solemnity that I attended the farewell ceremony of Captain John Sun Chu of the Flying Tigers. Captain Chu passed away in the United States at the age of 102, the last member of this legendary air force to pass away. His ashes are interred at the Bitan Air Force Martyrs Cemetery."

He also expressed gratitude to the Flying Tigers Memorial Hall in Hualien for their dedication to preserving this legacy of unity and freedom. Finally, Gu Liyan noted,"The Flying Tigers' legacy reminds us of our enduring shared commitment to maintaining peace, prosperity, and security."
