A Mexican man threw a Molotov cocktail at police in Los Angeles
A Mexican national with a criminal record who has previously been deported has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after he allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at law enforcement officers during a protest against immigration raids in Los Angeles last weekend, CNN reports.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced today that United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Los Angeles arrested Emilian Garduno-Galvez, after identifying him as the suspect who allegedly threw the Molotov cocktail, which was also captured on video.
Garduno-Galvez was charged yesterday evening with attempted murder, according to DHS.
"The protests in Los Angeles will not stop us or slow us down"
"These are the types of criminal illegal immigrants that the protesters are trying to protect," said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin."The protests in Los Angeles will not stop us or slow us down. If you assault a law enforcement officer, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
Garduno-Galvez was arrested in 2024 by Anaheim police for grand theft and by Long Beach police for DUI, according to DHS.
DHS also announced that other illegal immigrants they say are violent criminals were arrested in the Los Angeles area on Monday and Tuesday.

Hegsett: The National Guard deployment model is applicable across the country
The Secretary of Defense of the United States of America, Pete Hegseth, suggested today to the representatives that President Donald Trump's order from Saturday on the federalization of the National Guard was also intended as a precedent, so that the model could be applied in other federal states, the American media write.
"Part of that was to pre-empt the problem, so that if there were riots in other places where police officers were at risk, we would have the ability to quickly deploy the National Guard if needed," Hegseth said.
"Governor of California wants to politicize protests in LA"
Trump's order from Saturday evening, by which he placed"at least" 2,000 members of the National Guard under his control, did not specify a specific place and was very broad - it was stated that the soldiers will be deployed"in locations where protests against (federal, op. a.) functions are held or, according to current security assessments and planned operations, could be held," writes CNN.
"Fortunately, in most of those states you have a governor who recognizes the need for it, supports it and mobilizes the forces himself. In California, unfortunately, the governor wants to politicize the situation," Hegseth said.

Marines are still in training, it is not known when they will be deployed
The 700 Marines who were deployed to the Los Angeles area on Monday night are still undergoing training, and according to a spokesman for the US Northern Command, it is not yet clear when they will be deployed to the streets to help with the protests.
A spokesman told CNN that the Marines had not completed their training on the Rules of Use of Force and non-lethal weapons, and that there was no estimate when Task Force 51 would use them.
Task Force 51 is, we remind you, the Contingent Command Post of the US Army North, which provides rapidly deployable troops for homeland defense operations.
