Following the news of Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay's death, messages of condolence have been issued from various quarters mourning his passing. Among these statements are those from high-ranking officials, including President Gustavo Petro.
In a lengthy tweet, the president offered his condolences to the congressman's family and condemned any type of political violence."My sincere condolences to the family of Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, and to all Colombians. Life is above any ideology," Petro emphasized.
The head of state also noted that his administration has made a commitment to"the project of care and the expansion of life" as the main focus of its action.
"Violence in Colombia has been defeated over the last few decades. After a political genocide unleashed between liberals and conservatives, which left 300,000 peasants dead, after another political genocide committed against the country's left, we have moved to a violence centered on illicit economies, which is increasingly confined to borders and ports. But death surprises us and still assaults us," he indicated.
My sincere condolences to the family of Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, and to all Colombians.

The Attorney General of the Nation, Gregorio Eljach, also expressed his condolences.
"Today more than ever it is necessary to put aside pugnacity and polarization, and strive for us as a country to find spaces for dialogue, for consensus, and that bring us closer to peace and reconciliation, that distance us from the violence that today mourns us as a Nation", he added.
The attack against Miguel Uribe Turbay took place in early June during a public event in the Modelia neighborhood of Fontibón, Bogotá. During the speech, the congressman was shot three times, twice in the head and once in the leg. Due to the severity of his injuries, the Democratic Center candidate underwent surgery at the Santa Fe Clinic, where his family members and supporters are gathered in solidarity with him.
