On Saturday night, US President Donald Trump announced that the US had launched"very successful" attacks on three Iranian nuclear facilities. Now the question is how much of Iran's nuclear program remains after these strikes.

According to the source cited, it is likely that Saturday night's strikes did not destroy everything. The fight will now consist of tracking down what is left.

UPDATE Iran-affiliated media: Iran's port city of Bushehr hit by Israel

Explosions were heard in the southwestern Iranian city of Bushehr on Sunday, state-affiliated Iranian media said, without giving the exact location of the explosions.

Bushehr is home to Iran's only operational nuclear power plant, and the port city is close to a number of capitals in the Gulf region, located around the Persian Gulf Sea, according to CNN. The Fars news agency said the strikes targeted two locations in the city, but did not say whether the nuclear plant was targeted.

UPDATE 'Much too early' to say whether Iran retains some nuclear capabilities

Saturday's US military operation against Iranian nuclear facilities"had the desired effect," Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Sunday, but an assessment of the full impact of the attack is still underway, CNN notes.

In particular, Hegseth said, the US believes the attack on the Iranian underground Fordow facility"resulted in the destruction of capabilities."

“The battle damage assessment is ongoing, but our initial assessment … is that all of our precision munitions hit where we wanted them to hit and had the desired effect,” Hegseth said.

China has issued a strong condemnation of recent US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, according to Sky News.

China's Foreign Ministry said it"strongly condemns" these attacks.

He also criticized Donald Trump's military action as a serious violation of the United Nations Charter.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Russia strongly condemns the US attacks on Iran's nuclear sites, Reuters writes.

"The irresponsible decision to subject the territory of a sovereign state to missile and bomb attacks, regardless of the arguments with which it may be presented, flagrantly violates international law, the United Nations Charter and the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council," the ministry said.

UK Prime Minister to chair emergency COBRA meeting today

British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer will chair an emergency COBRA meeting this afternoon, Sky News reports.

COBRA — short for Cabinet Office Briefing Room A — is convened during major national or international emergencies, such as civil unrest, natural disasters, or security crises.

The British government has already held several such meetings since Israel launched its first attacks on Iran last Friday, and a new meeting is scheduled for today, in the context of current developments in the Middle East conflict.

IDF: US strikes are 'a crucial step' in stopping Iranian aggression

An Israeli military spokesman welcomed the US airstrikes on Iran, carried out overnight, as an essential measure to limit Iranian influence and hostility in the region.

Brigadier General Effie Defrin, of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), said on national television:

"The Iranian regime is responsible for the war that has been raging for over 600 days. From Gaza to Lebanon, from Yemen to Tehran, the Iranian regime has spent years fueling terrorism across the region."

He added that now, the consequences of Tehran's actions are being felt right on Iranian soil.

Commenting on the US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, Defrin said:

"These actions mark a crucial step in stopping the Iranian regime's aggression and its ability to endanger the region and the entire world."

"The regime's ability to threaten the State of Israel is being dismantled piece by piece," he concluded.

Araghchi:"We never trusted the West, and now we have even less"

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed a deep lack of trust in Western countries at a press conference in Istanbul, saying his skepticism had grown even more following recent events, according to Sky News.

"We never trusted Western countries during the negotiations, and now we have even more reasons not to trust them at all," Araghchi said.

He warned that no diplomatic steps should be taken before Iran responds to the recent US-led attacks.

Indirect contact with the US continues

Responding to a question about communication with the United States, Araghchi confirmed that indirect talks had taken place with Donald Trump's chief negotiator, Steve Witkoff, before the strikes.

"Although negotiations have been halted due to American aggression, we continue to receive messages from the Americans through various channels, especially through Oman," he said.

Oman has frequently acted as a mediator in previous exchanges between Tehran and Washington.

The press conference in Istanbul has ended.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said he would travel to Russia to meet with Vladimir Putin.

"I am leaving for Moscow this afternoon and have a meeting with President Putin tomorrow morning," Araghchi said on Sunday, at a press conference held in Istanbul, according to Sky News.

Iran: Diplomacy is now 'irrelevant' after US and Israeli attacks during negotiations

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said diplomatic talks were now"irrelevant," accusing Israel and the United States of launching attacks on Iran even during ongoing negotiations.

Asked by Al Jazeera at a press conference what conditions would be necessary for Tehran to return to the negotiating table, Araghchi replied that"there is no red line that the US has not crossed."

Referring to last Friday's attacks, he explained:"It is irrelevant to ask Iran to return to diplomacy, because we were already engaged in diplomatic talks with the United States when Israel decided to sabotage the process."

He added: "Just two days ago, we were in negotiations with European officials in Geneva and then the Americans decided to destroy that effort as well. So, we were engaged in diplomacy. But despite that, we were attacked."

Iran accuses US of escalation and asserts right to self-defense

Iran's foreign minister said the United States bears "full responsibility for the consequences of its actions" after airstrikes on Iranian territory last night, according to Sky News.

At a press conference in Istanbul, Abbas Araghchi condemned the US for carrying out military attacks"in the midst of a process aimed at leading to a diplomatic solution."

Araghchi mentioned that just the day before he met with the E3 group (the foreign ministers of Great Britain, France and Germany) as well as the EU foreign policy chief.

"The United States, dissatisfied with previous hostile measures, has now chosen to launch a dangerous military attack against the Iranian people," he said.

"Therefore, the US government bears full responsibility for the consequences of this action, including Iran's legitimate right to self-defense," Araghchi added.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has harshly criticized recent US attacks and accused US President Donald Trump of deceiving his own supporters, according to Sky News.

Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said that US President Donald Trump has started a new war for the US by attacking Iran.

US attack on Iran influenced by lessons of North Korea stagnation, expert says

Donald Trump's decision to order strikes on Iran may be influenced by the US's experience with North Korea's nuclear program, according to expert Jared Mondschein.

Speaking to Sky News, Mondschein, research director at the United States Studies Centre, explained that the US has consistently argued that Iran should not have a nuclear weapon. But the case of North Korea had a different outcome.

He said: “The George W. Bush administration declared a nuclear North Korea unacceptable, but ultimately decided it was not in their interest to prevent it, resulting in a situation of regional deadlock.”

Mondschein noted that, unlike North Korea, Iran is an expansionist power with proxy militias in the region, posing a threat to the security of the US and Israel.

He added: “We must not forget the large number of Americans, military and civilian, who have been targeted by Iran and its proxies.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Responds to UK:"How Can Iran Return to Something It Never Left?"

In response to calls from the UK and the EU to resume nuclear negotiations, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi reacted strongly.

On X, Araghchi wrote: “Last week, we were negotiating with the US when Israel decided to destroy that diplomacy.

This week, we had discussions with E3/EU when the US decided to destroy that diplomacy. What conclusion would you draw?

"For the UK and the EU High Representative, Iran must 'return' to the negotiating table. But how could Iran to something it never left or destroyed?"

European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas urged all sides on Sunday to step back and return to the negotiating table after US forces struck three Iranian nuclear sites.

UK Foreign Secretary urges Iranians to 'show restraint' after US strikes

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy urged Iran to"show restraint" after the United States bombed Iranian nuclear sites.

He reiterated statements previously made by Sir Keir Starmer.

Lammy also reaffirmed that the United Kingdom was not involved in these strikes.

Similar to the EU foreign policy chief, he stressed the need for a diplomatic solution.

Iranian politician: Iran has legal right to withdraw from nuclear non-proliferation treaty after US attacks

An Iranian politician has said that Iran has the legal right to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) following recent US military attacks.

Abbas Golroo, chairman of the foreign policy committee in the Iranian Parliament, said in a post that Iran could withdraw from the international agreement aimed at limiting the spread of nuclear weapons and technologies.

He invoked Article 10 of the treaty, which allows a member state to withdraw if “extraordinary events have endangered the supreme interests of its country.”

Iran reveals details of latest attacks on Israel

Iran has released information about the latest wave of attacks against Israel.

According to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the operation dubbed the twentieth wave of"Operation True Promise 3" began with the launch of 40 solid and liquid-fueled missiles.

The IRGC also stated that it used the Kheibar Shekan multiple-warhead ballistic missile for the first time in this attack.

Reported targets included Ben Gurion Airport, a biological research center, and a military command center.

Israeli emergency services announced that 16 people were being treated for injuries from the Iranian strikes.

Among the injured are a man in his 30s who has a shrapnel wound to his upper body, and 15 other people with minor injuries.

US drops 12 bunker buster bombs on Fordow nuclear facility

According to an American report, during the night the United States dropped 12 bunker buster bombs on the Fordow nuclear site.

The New York Times reported that six B-2 bombers carried out the attack, dropping bombs on the heavily fortified facility.

In addition, US Navy submarines reportedly launched 30 cruise missiles that targeted the nuclear sites at Natanz and Isfahan, two other critical points.

A B-2 bomber also reportedly dropped two bunker buster bombs on Natanz, according to an official quoted by the New York Times.

These strikes are considered the result of years of careful planning.

Since Israel began its wave of attacks on Iran, it has stated that its primary goal is to weaken Iran's nuclear infrastructure.

Now, with US involvement, this goal has broader support.

Israel's first strikes targeted Fordow, Isfahan and Natanz, sites essential for uranium enrichment in Iran's nuclear program.

Fordow is built into a mountain slope, making it largely resistant to conventional Israeli ammunition.

That is why US bunker buster bombs, capable of penetrating deep underground, were considered essential in this operation.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed"grave concern" over recent US strikes on Iran.

He described the attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities as a"dangerous escalation."

Starmer: US action aims to reduce Iranian nuclear threat

British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has reacted to the recent US strikes on Iran's nuclear sites.

He stated:"Iran's nuclear program poses a serious threat to international security. Iran must never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon, and the United States has taken steps to reduce that threat."

Starmer also stressed that the Middle East remains unstable and that regional stability is a priority. He called on Iran to return to the negotiating table to resolve the crisis diplomatically.

Britain was not involved in these strikes, Sky News also reports.
