White House and US Government Response - Criticism of Nobel Committee

Welcome to our coverage of US politics and ceasefire plans for Gaza.

Israel and Hamas have both signed off on phase one of a ceasefire plan but it is yet to come into effect.

Israel’s government will vote to proceed with the Donald Trump led plan at 5pm local time (1am AEST). It could then come into effect “within 24 hours” says a spokesman for Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

Mr Trump will hold a cabinet meeting on Thursday amid the push to down arms in Gaza. He may be hoping he could even crown off the week with a Nobel Peace Prize which is awarded on Friday.

In the US, the states of Illinois and Oregon will go to court to try and stop President Trump’s use of the National Guard.

On a US TV network, an audience member speaking to Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson called it “dystopian and insane” to hear him say that “everybody was smiling” in Washington DC after National Guard troops flooded the streets.

Donald Trump has raised eyebrows after he said he “took the freedom of speech away” when it came to the burning of the US flag. Despite what Mr Trump says, or believes, it is perfectly legal to burn the American flag.

While a second US state has started ripping up rainbow crossings – which are a common sight in neighbourhoods with lots of LGBTI people. Texas has joined Florida in demanding the removal of crossing with “political messages”.

And Robert F Kennedy Jr has claimed young boys who are circumcised are more likely to develop autism.
