The fire is spreading out of control in Orense: Five large active fires have already devastated more than 10,000 hectares. The flames have devoured more than 3,000 hectares in just a few hours in the Orense municipalities of Chandrexa de Queixa, Maceda, Oímbra, and A Mezquita.
According to the first morning report from the Regional Ministry of Rural Environment, compiled up to 9:00 a.m., the total area devastated by these five major fires in Orense (there are two in Chandrexa de Queixa) totaled 7,000 hectares. Now, with data collected up to 1:30 p.m., the total area devastated is now around 10,200 hectares.
Specifically, in that four-and-a-half-hour period, the Chandrexa de Queixa fire, which started on Tuesday afternoon in the parish of Parafita, has gone from covering 500 to 1,500 hectares in area; the Oímbra fire, from 200 to 1,500 hectares; and the A Mezquita fire, from 100 to 1,000 hectares.
Meanwhile, the other Chandrexa de Queixa fire, which broke out on Friday in the parish of Requeixo and is, so far, the largest of the summer in Galicia, remains at around 4,500 hectares. Although it remains active, it has barely made any progress.
