Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist and close ally of President Donald Trump, died Wednesday after being shot at a college event, Trump said.
Kirk, 31, co-founder and executive director of the youth organization Turning Point USA, is the latest victim of a wave of political violence in the United States.
Videos posted on social media by Utah Valley University show Kirk speaking into a handheld microphone while seated under a white tent with the slogans “America’s Comeback” and “Prove Me Wrong.”
A single shot is heard, and Kirk is seen extending his right hand as a large amount of blood spurts from the left side of his neck. Shocked onlookers can be heard gasping and screaming before people begin to flee.
Kirk was speaking at a debate organized by his nonprofit political organization. Just before the shooting, Kirk was answering questions from an audience member about mass shootings and gun violence.
