US President Donald Trump on Friday said his patience with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin is “running out fast.”

Trump made the comment to Fox and Friends on Friday but maintains that compromises are needed from both Kyiv and Moscow.

“[My patience is] sort of running out and running out fast, but it does take two to tango,” Trump said when questioned about his thoughts on Moscow’s latest actions.

The remark came as Russia has escalated its aerial campaign on Ukraine with a record 805 drones, and close to two dozen entering Poland in another attack, which prompted NATO forces to engage them in a historic first. Trump downplayed the incident as a “mistake,” much to the displeasure of Warsaw.

Trump hinted at a “very, very strong” response with no elaboration, while suggesting that Putin might want to end the war, describing the Russian leader’s position as a “question mark.”

“It’s amazing. When Putin wants to do it, [President Volodymyr] Zelensky didn’t. When Zelensky wanted to do it, Putin didn’t. Now Zelensky wants to and Putin is a question mark,” Trump said.

“We’re going to have to come down very, very strong.”

Trump has made similar remarks in recent months, sometimes with threats of action to coerce Moscow into negotiations – though the only tangible action remains the 50 percent secondary tariffs on India, a major Russian oil buyer.

Moscow’s escalation followed a summit between Trump and Putin in Alaska in August, which once again convinced the US president to pull back from the promised sanctions on Moscow.

But following the latest Russian drone strikes – including one that struck Kyiv’s government headquarters on Sunday – Europe has ostensibly convinced Trump to jointly apply pressure on Russia.

Yet, according to Politico, the parties have yet to agree on how to pressure Moscow, with Europe calling for more sanctions from the US. Meanwhile, Trump argued that Europe should pressure India and China with 100% tariffs on their end to curb Russia’s oil revenue.
