247 - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) called an emergency meeting this Wednesday (9) after the North American president, Donald Trump, announced new tariffs of 50% on Brazil.
Finance Minister Fernando Haddad was already with Lula when the US government announced the measure. Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, and Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira were also summoned, CNN Brasil reported.
When announcing the tariffs, President Donald Trump also defended Jair Bolsonaro (PL), a defendant in the investigation into the coup plot at the Supreme Federal Court.
From a global economic perspective, Trump made the announcement amid criticism of BRICS, a group of 11 countries that represents one of the main political and economic fronts of resistance to US unilateralism.
