Kremlin spokesman: 'Putin ready to negotiate peace'

Russian President Vladimir Putin is willing to negotiate peace in Ukraine, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a television interview, but only for the sake of achieving his goals.

"President Putin has repeatedly expressed his desire to bring the situation in Ukraine to a peaceful end, and to do so as quickly as possible. This is a long process that requires considerable effort and is not easy. The most important thing for us remains achieving our goals. And they are clear." He did not specify what those goals are.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday called on Russia to sit down again and discuss peace."We must do everything possible to achieve a ceasefire," he said in a speech, calling for a"meeting at the highest level."

Putin previously said he was pursuing peace, but then failed to show up when it mattered. Many international observers are therefore questioning whether the Russian president is serious.
