In his extensive intervention at the hearing in which Judge Sandra Liliana Heredia read the sentence against him, former President Uribe recapitulated the most important points of his case. The former president asserted that the ruling outweighed the political aspect over the legal aspect and that it was clearly made to silence the voice of the democratic opposition.
And he explained one by one the accusations against him, the witness accounts, the"erroneous interception" by the Supreme Court of Justice, among other elements.
In his narration, he drew attention to the act of mea culpa that former President Uribe made in front of his lawyers, Jaime Lombana and Jaime Granados, who for years have been the most reputable criminal lawyers in the country.
“I have asked them to forgive me many times and I have said it in public, not in private,” said the former president.
This isn't the first time the former president has apologized to his lawyers. As is known, Uribe ended up entangled in the efforts of another lawyer, Diego Cadena, who wasn't on his defense team, but approached the former president to offer his services. The former president accepted this help, despite having two experts on his side.

Uribe recounted that the years-long confrontation between Lombana and Granados led them, at some point, to underestimate the case. Above all, he said they had expressed their intention not to speak with Juan Guillermo Monsalve."And it was me who said: they're not going, Diego Cadena is going," the former president maintained.
Lawyer Jaime Lombana recounted years ago how they reconciled. It was at a press conference where the two went to support the former president.
“Jaime Granados, after we reestablished our dialogue at that press conference held by President Uribe in Medellín, we spoke again that day, shook hands, and said: this fight is over…”
