Washington. President Donald Trump reported that the United States attacked another small boat on Tuesday that he accused of transporting drugs in waters off Venezuela, six people on board the ship died in the attack and no member of the US forces was injured, through his Truth Social account.
“Under my Permanent Authorities as Commander in Chief, this morning the Secretary of War ordered a lethal kinetic strike against a vessel affiliated with a Designated Terrorist Organization (DTO) engaged in narcotics trafficking in the U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) area of responsibility, off the coast of Venezuela.”
“Intelligence confirmed that the vessel was smuggling narcotics, was associated with illicit narcoterrorist networks, and was transiting a known DTO route. The attack took place in international waters, and six male narcoterrorists on board were killed. No members of the United States Armed Forces were injured,” the president added in his message.
This is the fifth deadly attack in the Caribbean, as the Trump administration claims it treats suspected drug traffickers as unlawful combatants who must be met with military force.
Frustration with the administration has been growing on Capitol Hill among members of both parties. Some Republicans are demanding more information from the White House about the legal justification and details of the attacks. Democrats maintain that the attacks violate U.S. and international law.
