Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani has called for expansion of more tangible bilateral relations and wide-covering cooperation with neighboring Iraq in light of unfolding global developments.
Larijani made the appeal during a Saturday meeting with senior Iraqi Shia cleric and head of the National Wisdom Movement, Seyyed Ammar Hakim, who is on an official visit to Tehran.
“In view of the current dynamic status quo, cooperation between Iran and Iraq must become more objective and tangible,” Iran’s top security official said.
Larijani also characterized Iraq as a friendly and strong country in the region, describing Tehran-Baghdad cooperation as strategic.
For his part, Hakim stated that the 12-day Israeli military aggression against Iran, contrary to the Zionist entity’s calculations, boosted the Islamic Republic’s power in West Asia, and Muslims praised Iran’s dominant role.
“Nowadays, the Zionist regime’s wicked behavior as regards the ‘Greater Israel’ concept clearly shows that Iran was right to call Israel a cancerous tumor. The entire region has now become sensitive to Israel’s adventurism,” the Iraqi leader asserted.

On June 13, the Israeli regime launched an unlawful aggression against Iran, leading to the assassination of many senior commanders, nuclear scientists, and ordinary citizens.
Iran retaliated in less than 24 hours with a barrage of missiles and drones, and followed it up with a series of retaliatory operations under True Promise III.
The US entered the war on behalf of Israel on June 22, when its bombers hit three Iranian nuclear sites in brazen violation of international law.
In response, Iran launched a missile strike on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US military air base in West Asia, in an act of self-defense.
The embattled Israeli regime was forced to unilaterally accept a truce deal on June 24.
Larijani and Hakim also discussed the latest regional developments, the bilateral relations between Iran and Iraq, the security agreement between Baghdad and Tehran, and joint cooperation in order to strengthen the stability and security of the region.
