The highway is closed and will remain so for some time, police say.

A serious traffic accident with a fatal outcome occurred on the Stajerska Autostrada. Between the Šentrupert and Vransko junctions, in the direction towards Ljubljana, a foreign motorcyclist lost control of his vehicle and died at the scene of the accident, the Celje Police Department confirmed to 24ur.com.

According to initial information, the motorcyclist was involved in the accident on his own, but the exact circumstances are still being investigated by the police. The highway is expected to be closed for an extended period of time to inspect the scene and remove the consequences.

Congestion is occurring

The motorway is currently completely closed on the section where the tragic accident occurred, and the Šentrupert entrance towards Ljubljana is also closed. According to the traffic information centre Promet.si, the closure has already caused a long traffic jam. Detours for passenger vehicles are possible via the Šentrupert–Vransko regional road, as well as the Šempeter–Vransko local connection.
