French Prime Minister François Bayrou loses a confidence vote in parliament.

This means that the government falls.

By 7 p.m., the French National Assembly had voted.

364 members voted to bring down the government while 194 voted against.

The result was no surprise, as criticism of the government has been strong. It has mainly been about Prime Minister Bayrou's harsh austerity measures. Among other things, he wants to scrap two public holidays, which has not been popular with the French.

Now Bayrou is forced to resign after just three months in office. In December, his predecessor Michel Barnier fell in a similar vote of no confidence.

Now it is up to President Macron to, once again, try to find a new prime minister.
