Ceasefire Implementation and Challenges

The last 20 Hamas hostages have returned safely to Israel, two years after the attack of October 7, 2023.

The hostages were released on Monday morning, based on the Israel-Hamas ceasefire agreement, while nearly 2,000 Palestinians detained in Israel are expected to be released.

Shortly before 10 a.m. on Monday, US President Donald Trump arrived in Israel, where he is currently speaking to the Knesset.

Trump's presence in the Middle East marks the successful outcome of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which included the withdrawal of Israeli troops, the release of all hostages by Hamas and Palestinian prisoners by Israel.

A peace summit is scheduled for Egypt in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, where the agreement was negotiated. The summit will be co-chaired by US President Donald Trump and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and will be attended by more than 20 other heads of state and government, as well as UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Greece and Cyprus will also participate in the summit.
