Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been diagnosed with intestinal inflammation caused by eating spoiled food, a day after reports emerged that he had missed his weekly cabinet meeting.
As Ukrinform reports, this was reported by theTimes of Israel, citing a statement from the Israeli Prime Minister's office.
Netanyahu fell ill during the night. He was examined at home by Dr. Alon Hershko, director of the therapeutic department at Hadassah University Hospital - Ein Kerem, the politician's office reported.
During the examination, Hershko diagnosed Netanyahu with intestinal inflammation due to eating spoiled food. The prime minister's condition was found to be satisfactory after further examination, and he is currently receiving intravenous fluids after dehydration caused by the illness.
In accordance with doctors' instructions, the Prime Minister will rest at home for the next three days and will conduct state affairs from there, Netanyahu's office said in a statement.
Netanyahu, 75, has struggled with health problems in recent years. He had his prostate removed in late December 2024 and underwent hernia surgery in March of that year. That same month, he missed several days of work due to the flu.
In 2023, he underwent a pacemaker operation after suffering a temporary heart block. A week earlier, he had been hospitalized, he said, for dehydration. Doctors later discovered that Netanyahu had had heart conduction problems for many years.
A medical report published in January 2023 – the last to be made public – stated that Netanyahu was in completely normal health, with his pacemaker functioning properly and no signs of cardiac arrhythmia or any other problematic conditions.
As Ukrinform reported, at the end of December last year, it became known that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would undergo surgery to remove his prostate.
