"A productive conversation with President Trump, with efforts to end the war at the forefront, of course. (...) Today we coordinated the positions of Ukraine and the United States. We exchanged assessments of the situation: the Russians have intensified the brutality of their attacks. President Trump is fully informed about the Russian attacks on Kyiv and other cities and communities," Zelensky wrote on the X network.
According to him, he and Trump discussed, among other things, sanctions against Russia."Their economy continues to decline, and that is why Moscow is so sensitive to this possibility and President Trump's determination. This can change a lot," he emphasized.
They also talked about cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense."The Ukrainian side has already prepared a draft agreement on drones, we are ready to discuss it in detail and conclude it. This could be one of the strongest agreements," Zelensky added.
Trump has been trying to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine since the beginning of his term and has been trying to put pressure on Russia, but so far he has failed. He has also set a 50-day deadline for Russian President Vladimir Putin to achieve a ceasefire, otherwise he has threatened tariffs and extensive sanctions against Russia. He later shortened this deadline. It will expire on Friday.
Putin is unlikely to succumb to pressure from Trump with sanctions and will continue to insist on his goal of taking full control of four Ukrainian regions in the east and south of the country, sources close to the Kremlin told Reuters news agency.
