247 - In São Paulo, social movements gathered this Sunday (7) in Praça da República, in downtown São Paulo, to demonstrate against the possibility of amnesty for those involved in the attempted coup on January 8 and in defense of national sovereignty in the face of US aggression against the nation. The event was also attended by union and political leaders. The information is from the newspaper O Globo.
According to left-wing leaders, in addition to national sovereignty, the protest in Praça da República also addresses taxation of the super-rich, income tax exemption for those earning up to R$5,000 per month, and a reduction in working hours without a reduction in wages. These issues are nothing new and have permeated left-wing protests since the beginning of the year.
Organized by the Frente Povo Sem Medo, which brings together the MST and the MTST, and by union movements such as the Central Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT) and the União Geral dos Trabalhadores (UGT), the expectation is to carry out similar acts in at least 36 cities in 23 states and the Federal District.
