NATO Article 4 Invocation and Alliance Response

Trump's Reaction and Commentary

The Russian drone incursion into Polish airspace was intended to test NATO's defenses and political will, but for the Kremlin, this attempt appears to have failed.

This opinion was expressed by Toby Dickinson, former head of air combat operations in the Royal Air Force of Great Britain, in a comment to Ukrinform.

"This was another attempt by Putin to test NATO's defense and political will," the expert said.

As for whether Putin has achieved his goal, Dickinson noted the unity in the responses of NATO and EU political leaders, which suggests that the Kremlin leader appears to have failed.

"NATO responded to the threat and dealt with it at a tactical level, making it clear to Putin that it would not tolerate such a thing, while avoiding escalation on our part," the former head of air combat operations of the Royal Air Force of Great Britain emphasized.

According to the military, Poland's response to Russia's violation of NATO airspace was appropriate and effective, and the press statement by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte was balanced, as it referred to an invasion, not an attack, which is appropriate at this stage.

He added that Russia's belligerent stance and provocations reinforce the need for Alliance unity and constant vigilance at all levels, and for NATO and the EU to increase their readiness to counter Russian aggression.

As Ukrinform reported, several drones violated Polish airspace during a massive attack on Ukraine on the night of Wednesday, September 10.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that it was Russian drones that violated the country's airspace in large numbers.

He added that drones that posed a direct threat were shot down.
