An emergency meeting was held today, Monday, at the headquarters of the Safi region, following the floods and exceptional rainfall that the city experienced, which resulted in loss of life and property.

This meeting, chaired by the Governor of the Marrakech-Safi region and Governor of the Marrakech Prefecture, Khatib El Hebil, and attended by the Governor of Safi Province, Mohamed Fattah, the President of the Regional Council, regional security authorities, and officials of the relevant decentralized services, was dedicated to assessing the general situation in the city and its repercussions on the affected population.

The meeting also addressed assessing the extent of the damage recorded in the various neighborhoods affected by the strong torrents of rainwater, and discussed the urgent measures that must be taken to mitigate the effects of these floods and ensure the safety of citizens.

It was also emphasized that all necessary human and logistical resources should be mobilized, close coordination should be maintained among the various stakeholders, vigilance should be kept at the highest level, and all measures should be taken to mitigate the effects of these floods and address their repercussions as quickly as possible, as well as to provide the necessary support and assistance.

It is noted that the death toll from the exceptional thunderstorms that hit the region on Sunday evening, and the resulting strong and sudden flash floods, has risen to thirty-seven (37), according to data from the local authorities in the region.

The interventions of the public authorities, civil protection services, public forces, and all stakeholders are still ongoing through the continuation of field combing, search and rescue operations, and the provision of support and assistance to the affected population.
