Following the Trump-Xi meeting, the internet was instantly flooded with speculation about the US abandoning Taiwan, with some even claiming Taiwan was about to be betrayed. Former KMT legislator Wu Szu-huai even posted a sarcastic comment, criticizing the DPP and belittling Trump. In response, the DPP today (August 30th) directly stated that this was all"cognitive warfare" by China, spreading misinformation. Trump himself has already made it very clear—the Taiwan issue was not discussed at all. In other words, the so-called"abandoning Taiwan" scenario is a complete fabrication, and the rumors are easily debunked.

On the day of the Trump-Xi meeting, Wu Szu-huai posted an article early in the morning asserting that the DPP was"pretending to be asleep" and using the denigration of Trump to praise China. Wu Chun-chih refuted this, pointing out that the United States has a very clear understanding of Taiwan's strategic value, and Trump"truly understands" the importance of Taiwan. Former US Deputy National Security Advisor Matt Pottinger stated that claims such as Trump selling out Taiwan as a deal are all probing messages released by the Chinese Communist Party in the US media to manipulate public opinion.

Han Ying criticized the fact that, despite knowing China was manipulating public opinion, former military-affiliated legislators and opposition figures in Taiwan were following the rhetoric of skepticism and abandoning Taiwan, which she described as a major crisis. She argued that they were receiving instructions from China to cooperate in cognitive warfare. Han Ying pointed out that China's current propaganda operation aims not to make Taiwanese people like China, but to divide Taiwanese society, incite antagonism among the people, and even make them"hate their own country"—this is the core tactic of cognitive warfare.

Wu Junzhi concluded by pointing out that after the Trump-Xi meeting, President Trump himself clearly stated that the Taiwan issue was not discussed. All the previous speculation that Taiwan would be betrayed during the meeting has proven to be a misjudgment and has fallen apart on its own. It now appears that the desired outcome was not achieved. The people of Taiwan also need to unite to avoid being influenced by China's perceived military actions.
