In the United States, two people were killed and eight others were injured in a shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.

This is reported by Ukrinform with reference to NBC News.

According to Providence Mayor Brett Smiley, the shooting was reported after 4 p.m. local time.

Law enforcement officials said the shooter - a man dressed in black - fled.

Two people died, eight injured are in critical condition and have been taken to local hospitals.

US President Donald Trump said he was informed of the incident."I have been fully briefed on the situation at Brown University," he said."How terrible it is, and all we can do right now is pray for the victims and those who are seriously injured."

He also added: This is a shame… Just pray.

On his social network Truth Social, Trump indicated that the suspect was detained, apparently based on preliminary information received from the scene, which was later refuted by law enforcement.

The FBI is working at the scene, the president noted.
