European countries must provide further military aid to Ukraine, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Thursday, a day after the United States announced it was limiting supplies of air defense missiles and other ammunition to Ukraine over concerns about its own stockpiles. TASR reports, according to AFP.

"This is a clear signal to step up our own support and increase European defense capabilities, not only at EU level, but also at continental level," von der Leyen said during a visit to Denmark on the occasion of the official ceremony of the Nordic country taking over the presidency of the Council of the EU.

US supply restrictions

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said in a statement released Wednesday night that the decision to suspend deliveries"was made to prioritize America's interests after the Department of Defense reviewed the country's military support and assistance to other countries around the world."

Zelensky's expected phone call

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is planning to speak to White House President Donald Trump about the decision on Friday, according to sources in the Financial Times.
