The child's mother and grandmother were under the influence of alcohol on the day the boy disappeared, according to information available to LETA. It has not yet been possible to determine how the alcohol entered the boy's body.

The case of the boy's death has been transferred to the prosecutor's office for criminal prosecution. The prosecutor's office told LETA that charges will be decided in the near future. The prosecutor's office did not comment on the circumstances of the case, including the information LETA has about alcohol in the child's body.

The State Police (SP) has proposed charging the child's mother and grandmother in cases related to the child who died in the Rēzekne region last winter.

The VP writes in a press release that on February 1 this year at around 1:30 p.m., it was determined that a boy born in 2023 had left his home in the Lendži parish of the Rēzekne region and had gone missing. The police received information about this incident at around 3 p.m. and began search operations, involving extensive forces, including colleagues from other structural units with several drones and a dog handler with a service dog.

On the evening of the same day at 9:22 p.m. in Lendži parish, approximately 200 meters from the"Taudejāņi" railway station stop, a boy was found without signs of life. Despite prolonged resuscitation measures, the child's life could no longer be saved.

Law enforcement officers detained two people at the scene - women born in 1985 and 1964.

On February 3, the police applied to the court with a proposal to detain one suspect. The court did not grant the proposal and applied a non-custodial security measure - police supervision.

In June, a separate criminal case was separated from the criminal proceedings against a woman born in 1964, namely for the disclosure of information obtained during pre-trial criminal proceedings.

The police have proposed that the prosecutor's office hold the woman, born in 1985, criminally liable under two articles of the Criminal Law, namely, for unlawful killing due to negligence and cruelty to a minor.

Latvian Television previously reported that the boy's mother and grandmother were at home when the boy disappeared. The children's father was not in Latvia at the time of the accident.

It has already been reported that on February 1, a boy born in 2023 went missing in the Lendži parish of Rēzekne region and was found dead outside a short time later. The child had left the house in clothing completely unsuitable for winter.

The deceased child was declared dead in Rēzekne and had come to visit the region.
