Jerusalem.- Israel will refocus on its fight against the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip after the 12-day war with Iran, the army's chief of staff said Tuesday.

Now,"the focus returns to Gaza," declared Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir in a statement, saying he is confident of recovering the hostages still in the hands of Palestinian militias and"overthrowing the Hamas regime," the ultimate objective that Israel has set for itself to conclude the offensive that began in October 2023 and that has already left more than 56,000 dead, according to the authorities in the Strip.

The head of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Eyal Zamir, has assured that"the campaign against Iran is not over" despite the theoretical ceasefire agreement announced by United States President Donald Trump, and has indicated that the Israeli forces are simply"entering a new phase."

"We have closed a significant chapter," Zamir stressed, during a meeting in which he praised the achievements of the bombing campaign, but called for"keeping our feet on the ground" and "not resting on our laurels." "Many challenges remain ahead," he warned in statements released by the IDF.

The military command has noted that the attacks launched in the last week and a half on Iran have set its nuclear industry back"several years," as well as its missile program.
