Jair Bolsonaro's defense said this Tuesday (22) to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), that the former president did not fail to comply with the precautionary measure that prohibits the use of social networks, including posting his speeches on third-party profiles.
The defense's statement was motivated by the minister's decision, which, this Monday (21), gave Bolsonaro 24 hours to explain the non-compliance with the precautionary measure, one of the measures imposed against him last week. Non-compliance could lead to Bolsonaro's preventive arrest.
Yesterday afternoon, Bolsonaro displayed the electronic ankle bracelet and gave an interview during a visit to the Chamber of Deputies, and the images were published on various social media profiles and in the press. The use of the device is part of another measure established against the former president.
Bolsonaro's lawyers stated that the former president has no control over posts made by third parties and asked the minister to clarify whether his decision involves banning interviews.
"Therefore, while vehemently refuting any non-compliance, the appellant, so that there is no misunderstanding of the intended scope of the precautionary measure imposed, through these appeals, requests that the decision be clarified, in order to specify the exact terms of the prohibition on the use of social media, clarifying, further, whether the prohibition involves the granting of interviews", says the defense.
On Friday (18), precautionary measures were determined in the investigation in which the former president's son, federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, is investigated for his actions with the government of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, aiming to promote retaliatory measures against the Brazilian government and ministers of the Supreme Court and try to block the progress of the criminal action on the coup plot.
Check out the measures determined against Bolsonaro:
- Use of electronic ankle bracelet;
- Nighttime curfew between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., Monday through Friday, and full-time on weekends and holidays;
- Prohibition on approaching and accessing embassies and consulates of foreign countries;
- Prohibition on contact with ambassadors or foreign authorities;
- Prohibition on the use of social media, directly or through third parties.
- Prohibition on contact with Eduardo Bolsonaro and those investigated in the four groups involved in the coup plot.
