Sikorski: Poland will not give up its support for Ukraine despite the victory of Nawrocki

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslav Sikorski said today that Poland will not give up its support for Ukraine or its growing role in the EU despite the victory of Karol Nawrocki, who was backed by the nationalist Pravo i Pravda party, in the presidential election.

Sikorski told Politico that Nawrocki agrees with the national consensus that Russia should be deterred, and that he could even help smooth relations with US President Donald Trump and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, writes the Brussels-based Politico.

He pointed out that Navrocki might be able to convince Orban that Ukraine should be supported.

Navrocki's victory over ruling party candidate Rafal Trzaskovski last week created a crisis for Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who scheduled a vote of confidence in parliament for Wednesday."I am confident that the vote of confidence will be a large majority for the government," said Sikorski.
