US President Donald Trump confirmed Friday that authorities have arrested Charlie Kirk's alleged killer and provided details about how he surrendered. Sources cited by the AP news agency said the arrested young man is named Tyler Robinson and is 22 years old .

“We have the person we believe we are looking for. Everyone did an excellent job. We worked with local law enforcement and the governor” of Utah, the president said in a live interview with Fox News from New York. He provided details of how the handover went.

Someone very close to him turned him in,” Trump explained very briefly at first, indicating that it was apparently the father himself and people “close” to the alleged shooter who asked for him to turn himself in to authorities after law enforcement agencies released several images and a video showing a white man wearing dark pants, a sweatshirt and cap, and sunglasses.

It was a parent who got involved, specifically his father, and said, ‘We need to go’ (to the police). Again, this is subject to change, but you know, the facts are the facts:We have the person who we believe is the person we’re looking for. They drove him to police headquarters, and he’s there,” he said.

Trump insisted he didn't want to watch the video, which clearly shows the moment Kirk was killed."I don't want to remember Charlie that way. It's horrible, from what I heard," he said.

Utah Governor Cox's Version

In a joint press conference between the FBI and Utah Governor Spencer Cox, the state's top official confirmed in some detail what Donald Trump had anticipated:"On the night of September 11, a relative of Tyler Robinson contacted a family friend, who in turn contacted the Washington County Sheriff's Office," he said.

This person was the one who gave them the “information that Robinson had confessed to or hinted at committing the incident. This information was relayed to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office and Utah Valley University crime scene investigators. This information was also relayed to the FBI,” Cox explained.

This collaboration proved instrumental in guiding the investigation and enabled law enforcement to act quickly.

During the investigation, officers found unfired ammunition next to the weapon that authorities said was used in the shooting.

Cox explained that engraved inscriptions were found on these cartridges, including: “Hey, fascist! Take this!” and another that read: “If you read this, you're gay, hahaha,” using the acronym for “I'm dying of laughter.”

These messages provided additional elements to the investigation and were highlighted by the governor as part of the relevant evidence in the case.

Hundreds of kilometers away

On Thursday night, Tyler was arrested near Zion National Park, an area several hundred miles from the Utah Valley University campus, a law enforcement official said.

The operation, which took place at 11:00 p.m. local Utah time (MT), included the participation of Utah state and local police. According to the information provided, Tyler was arrested near the national park.

The distance between the arrest site and the university campus underscores the magnitude of the police deployment, as Zion National Park is located several hundred miles from Utah Valley University.

On Thursday, Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason said Charlie Kirk's killer easily gained access to the roof of a Utah Valley University building before opening fire, taking advantage of the building's open hallways and lack of locked doors.

Mason explained that the investigation allowed them to track the suspect's movements through security videos released by the FBI, which show the shooter walking across campus to reach the rooftop. After the shooting, the man fled into the woods, where a rifle used in the crime was later found.

The commissioner highlighted the response of local authorities: Salt Lake City is “ investing everything it has ” to bring the wrongdoer to justice, he said.

Mason added that the attacker “was able to jump from the rooftop to a grassy area and exit through the parking lot” of the university campus.
