Minnesota Police Chief Brian O'Hara said that in the morning, a gunman approached the church at Annunciation Catholic School and began shooting through the church windows at children and other worshippers who had come to Mass. In total, dozens of shots were fired.
According to the police officer, the children were 8 and 10 years old. The perpetrator also died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
17 people were injured, including 14 children, two of whom are in critical condition.
It was the first week of school, where children from the youngest age to the eighth grade study.
The perpetrator, who appears to be in his 20s, was carrying a rifle, shotgun and pistol, and police believe he fired all three weapons.
President Donald Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social that he was fully informed about the tragic shooting.
"The White House will be monitoring this terrible situation. Please join me in praying for all those affected!" he wrote.
As Ukrinform reported, on August 11 in the US state of Texas, three people were killed in a shooting near a Target store in Austin.
