The White House announced that a summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin is not expected in the near future. A White House official provided a written statement to Anadolu Agency (AA) regarding the Trump-Putin summit, expected to take place in Budapest, Hungary, in two weeks.

"Secretary of State (Marco) Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister (Sergey) Lavrov had a productive meeting. No additional face-to-face meetings will be necessary between the two ministers, and President Trump is not scheduled to meet with President Putin in the near future," the US official said.

TRUMP EVALUATED THE ISSUE OF MEETING WITH PUTIN

US President Donald Trump commented on the postponement of his potential meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying,"I don't want to have a pointless meeting. I don't want to waste my time."

US President Trump answered questions from the press about current events at an event held at the White House. When asked about the summit with Putin, which was planned to be held in Budapest but reportedly been postponed, Trump said,"I don't want to have a pointless meeting. I don't want to waste my time." The US President then hinted that the meeting could still take place, adding,"We haven't made a decision yet."

Responding to a question about why he canceled the meeting with Putin, Trump said,"I didn't say anything. I didn't say that would happen. You never know what will happen. We will give you information about what we will do in the next two days," indicating that a possible summit is still possible.

The US President stated that he believes a ceasefire is still possible in the Russia-Ukraine War.

The White House, which made a statement on the issue yesterday, said that a summit between US President Trump and Russian President Putin is not expected in the near future.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA), a US official said,"Foreign Minister (Marco) Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister (Sergey) Lavrov held a productive meeting. An additional face-to-face meeting between the two ministers will not be necessary, and President Trump is not scheduled to meet with President Putin in the near future."

US President Trump announced last week that he would meet with Russian President Putin in Budapest to discuss ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
