Trump's Rhetoric and Accusations

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem “condemned” Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo for “encouraging” protests against the raids in Los Angeles, California.

At an Oval Office event for President Donald Trump , Noem said that Claudia Sheinbaum “came out and encouraged more protests in Los Angeles and I condemn her for that.”

He stated that Sheinbaum “should not be encouraging violent protests.” He indicated that while people “have the right to peaceful protest,” “the violence we are seeing is not acceptable, and it will not happen in the United States.”

The Secretary of Homeland Security noted that “this president stands up for the average American who wants to safely take their children to school every day, run their businesses, and provide for their families.”

He asserted that Trump “has every authority under the Constitution to send the National Guard, in accordance with Title 10, into these communities and ensure that law enforcement is protected, that they can do their jobs, and that they are not disrespected.”

Trump says he would invoke the Insurrection Act against protests in Los Angeles.

Kristi Noem praised Trump for sending the National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles, who she said “are trained to respond to the needs we have on the ground.”

He also criticized the governor of California, Democrat Gavin Newsom, for the way he has responded to the protests that broke out last Friday against the raids against migrants.

Trump said that if it weren't for the deployment of the National Guard and Marines, Los Angeles"would be burning," and warned that he could invoke the Insurrection Act in that Californian city due to the protests.

“If there is an insurrection, I would certainly invoke it,” he said, in response to reporters’ questions.

"If necessary, we will mobilize," Sheinbaum said, for a remittance tax, not for raids.

On social media a message from Sheinbaum has been spreading these days against the imposition of taxes on remittances sent by Mexicans in the United States to their relatives in Mexico.

The 3.5% tax is included in Trump's tax plan, which is currently in the hands of the U.S. Senate.

In her message, Sheinbaum said:"Because if necessary, we will mobilize. Because we do not want there to be taxes on remittances from our countrymen, from the United States to Mexico."
