The government issued a statement expressing its disappointment in Cambodia's actions, calling them serious war crimes. It invited the international community to condemn this inhumanity, expressing its deepest sorrow for the loss of soldiers and civilians, and coordinating with airlines to arrange special flights to bring Thais home.

At approximately 5:25 p.m. on July 25, 2025, Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, as Acting Prime Minister, read the government's statement to the Thai people, stating that from the situation that our country, Thailand, is being threatened by Cambodia, although in the past we have tolerated provocations and chosen to use peaceful means under the framework of international law and humanitarian principles,

But it is very disappointing that the Cambodian side chose to use military force first, and it is also a serious violation of international law and humanitarian principles by attacking a hospital and populated areas more than 20 kilometers beyond the border resulting in the deaths of 13 civilians, including children, women and the elderly, and the property of our people is severely damaged which is a serious war crime

Yesterday (24 July 2015), the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Mr. Maris Sangiampong) explained the facts to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the government has written to the United Nations Security Council to clarify the facts, condemning the indiscriminate attacks, especially on innocent civilians, and inviting the international community to join in condemning this inhumane act.

The government expresses its deepest condolences for the loss of our people and would like to reiterate that the government, the military, and all government agencies have not been idle.  Since the first gunshots were fired, the Thai military has responded by limiting the Cambodian military targets to the principle of self-defense in accordance with international law by destroying Cambodian military strongholds.

We have now evacuated hundreds of thousands of affected people from the area, and the government has set criteria for compensating the families of both military and civilian deceased persons of 1,000,000 baht each, the disabled of 700,000 baht, the seriously injured of 200,000 baht, and the seriously injured of 100,000 baht. We have also coordinated with all airlines to arrange special flights to bring Thais home safely, including taking full care of injured personnel. Tomorrow (July 26, 2025), the Minister will travel to cover 4 provinces: Ubon Ratchathani, Sisaket, Surin and Buriram to build confidence that the people in the area will be safe and help take care of and encourage the people in the area.

“This is a time when all Thai people must unite as one to send encouragement to all soldiers who are performing their duties to protect sovereignty and the safety of the people in the area. I would like to emphasize that this incident is not a conflict among the people of both countries. It is not a declaration of war, but a clash along the border to protect sovereignty and respond to the invaders.

Finally, it is the greatest kindness that His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen are concerned about the military personnel and civilians who were injured from the unrest in the area. Therefore, they have graciously accepted all the injured as patients under their royal care.
