UPDATE

In response to the question of whether the United States accepted everything Vladimir Putin put on the table during Friday's summit in Alaska between him and Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio told CBS's Face the Nation on Sunday:

"The United States is not in a position to accept or reject anything, because ultimately the decision belongs to the Ukrainians. They are the ones with whom Russia must make peace. We need to make enough progress to be able to sit President Zelensky and President Putin at the same table, as President Zelensky has requested, and reach a final agreement that ends this war."

There were some concepts and ideas discussed that we know the Ukrainians could strongly support at that meeting… We will not negotiate this in the media. I understand that everyone wants to know what happened. But ultimately, there were issues discussed at this meeting that can lead to significant progress, that can lead to progress.”

Original news

United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, present at the summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin held in Alaska on Friday, gave an interview to CBS's Face the Nation, writes The Guardian.

He said Washington would continue to seek a way to encourage an end to the conflict in Ukraine, but acknowledged that this goal may be impossible to achieve.

Marco Rubio also stated on the show that daily life in the United States would not undergo major changes even if the war did not end soon.

"If peace is not possible here and the war continues, people will continue to die by the thousands... we could, unfortunately, end up in this situation, but we don't want to end up there," Rubio said.

He also said the Alaska meeting included discussions that may pave the way for important steps forward.

"During this meeting, aspects were discussed that could lead to progress, to important discoveries," explained the Secretary of State.
