US President Donald Trump's success in brokering a peaceful settlement in the Middle East could be a catalyst for his more active intervention in ending Russia's war against Ukraine.
This opinion was expressed in an interview with Ukrinform by Megan Mobbs, president of the R.T. Weatherman Foundation, daughter of the US President's Special Representative for Ukraine, General Keith Kellogg.
"Even President Trump's most ardent critics admit that it has been an extraordinary success. What he has achieved in the Middle East is impressive," she noted.
According to her, this momentum now needs to be used to establish peace between Russia and Ukraine.
"So I think this is a huge achievement for the president. And to answer your question, I really think this should be the next step: this success needs to be continued, this momentum needs to be used to bring peace between Russia and Ukraine," Mobbs said when asked whether success in the Middle East could open a "window of opportunity" for President Trump to focus more actively on ending Russia's war against Ukraine.
She recalled that Trump in his speech in the Knesset directly indicated that"Russia is next."
"And when President Trump says something, he really means it. So I hope we see that turn. The meeting on Friday will be about how to end this war? What will be the end of it? And so yes, I hope that now a significant part of the effort will be directed to that," Mobbs noted.
As Ukrinform reported, earlier, Politico, citing an anonymous White House representative, noted that US President Donald Trump is optimistic about the possibility of achieving peace in Ukraine after a successful hostage exchange in the Middle East.
