A group of over 12,700 professors from universities across Iran have condemned"insolent and shameless threats" by US President Donald Trump and Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu against Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

In a statement issued Saturday, 12,741 members of the Professors Basij Organization warned that any “malicious and insulting” acts targeting the sanctity of Ayatollah Khamenei will have an"unpredictable cost".

“There will be no safe place in Iran and the region or anywhere in the world, not just for the president and those who order and perpetrate such measures but for any of the agents of the terrorist US military,” the statement added.

The professors also warned the “child-killing Zionist regime and its Western backers that reckless arrogance at higher levels will not bring an end to the conflict but will ignite an endless war and a relentless campaign for your destruction".

The professors called on prominent scholars, intellectuals, media staff and writers to rise to their historic responsibility by voicing their support for Muslim authorities and enlightening Muslim nations and the free peoples of the world.

In his customary vile language last week, the US president launched a tirade of abuse at Ayatollah Khamenei, claiming that he had prevented the Israeli regime and the American armed forces from assassinating him.

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi last week advised Trump to show respect toward Ayatollah Khamenei if he genuinely seeks a deal with Iran.

"If President Trump is genuine about wanting a deal, he should put aside the disrespectful and unacceptable tone towards Iran's... Leader, Grand Ayatollah Khamenei," the top diplomat wrote in a social media post early.

On June 13, Israel launched a blatant and unprovoked act of aggression against Iran, assassinating many high-ranking military commanders and nuclear scientists.

On June 22, the United States officially joined Israel’s war of aggression against Iran by launching attacks on three nuclear facilities in the country in violation of the United Nations Charter and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

On June 24, the Israeli regime, isolated and abandoned, declared a unilateral halt to its aggression, announced on its behalf by US President Donald Trump.
