Trump Pressuring Ukraine to Accept Terms

Budapest Meeting Preparations and Reactions

This week's meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy"did not end the way Zelenskyy wanted," said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz shortly after the meeting.

The reputable Financial Times now has new information about what happened behind the scenes in The White House .

During the meeting, Trump reportedly urged Zelensky to agree to Putin's demands for peace.

The whole thing reportedly ended in a big fight – including Trump allegedly throwing Ukraine's maps of the battlefield aside at one point.

"The meeting between the US and Ukrainian presidents degenerated several times into a 'shouting brawl', with Trump swearing the entire time", writes Financial Times with reference to sources.

“If Putin wants, he can destroy you”

According to the FT, the meeting was reminiscent of the big fight in the White House that occurred in February, when Zelensky was scolded by the entire Trump administration.

Trump reportedly insisted on the demand Putin made during their phone call on Thursday, that the entire eastern Donbass region become Russian.

Zelenskyy is said to have finally managed to freeze the current front lines, writes the FT.

“Trump’s aggressive repetition of Putin’s rhetoric on Friday dashed the hopes of many of Ukraine’s European allies that he could be persuaded to increase support for Kiev.”, the newspaper writes.

“Lectured to Zelensky”

Large parts of the meeting reportedly consisted of Trump"lecturing" Zelensky on the demands made by Putin.

Putin's demands were reportedly somewhat more"positive" for Ukraine than those he made to Trump in Alaska.

Then he demanded the entire Donbass region and a freeze on the front lines. Now he is said to have “agreed” that only eastern Donbass would remain Russian in exchange for the southern front lines in Kherson and Zaporizhia.

“Giving Donbass to Russia without a fight is unacceptable for Ukrainian society, and Putin knows that,” Alexander Merezhko, chairman of the Ukrainian parliament’s foreign affairs committee, told the FT.

Zelenskyy is said to have been"very negative" about the future when he spoke with several European leaders.

Trump has swung – again

Just a few weeks ago, Trump expressed his frustration with Putin's inability to resume peace negotiations.

On social media, he likened Russia to “a paper tiger” and wrote that “Ukraine would be capable of taking back its country in its original form and, who knows, maybe even go further than that!”

“Trump’s aggressive repetition of Putin’s rhetoric on Friday dashed the hopes of many of Ukraine’s European allies that he could be persuaded to increase support for Kiev.”, writes the FT.
