International Calls for Ending the War

Attacks and Incidents

Saudi Arabia on Tuesday welcomed a statement by a group of Western nations calling for an immediate end to the war on Gaza, reaffirming the Kingdom’s rejection of Israel’s blockade of humanitarian aid and its targeting of civilians.

A group of Western countries including Britain, France and Canada said on Monday that Israel must immediately end its war on the besieged strip and criticized what they called the “inhumane killing” of Palestinians and the “drip feeding of aid.”

“The suffering of civilians in Gaza has reached new depths. The Israeli government’s aid delivery model is dangerous, fuels instability and deprives Gazans of human dignity,” the signatories said in their statement.

“It is horrifying that over 800 Palestinians have been killed while seeking aid. The Israeli Government’s denial of essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable. Israel must comply with its obligations under international humanitarian law.”

The Kingdom’s foreign ministry in its statement also reiterated its rejection of the “the continued inhumane practices of the Israeli occupation authorities in preventing aid and the targeting of civilians while they are attempting to reach their basic needs from food, medicine and water.”

Scores of Palestinians have been killed while seeking aid and many were in the vicinity of Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) sites, which the United States and Israel backed to take over aid distribution in Gaza from a network led by the United Nations.

Saudi Arabia called on the international community to act “swiftly” in taking decisive measures and practical steps to stop the Israeli “intransigence, which aims to deliberately prolong the crisis and undermine all regional and international peace efforts.”
