Trump on Tariffs: A Matter of National Security

Tuesday, October 21

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday considered the tariffs a matter of US national security.

"I will discuss the issue of tariffs with the Chinese president in South Korea, and tariffs are a matter of our national security," Trump said in a speech.

He added,"We have become a wealthy country and will be able to pay off our debts. Without customs duties, we will face an economic downturn." He revealed,"We have brought $17 trillion in investments to the United States, and the number will soon reach $20 trillion."

On April 2, 2025, US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of reciprocal tariffs on imports from other countries, with the basic minimum tariff being 10%, with each country's tariff being adjusted to be half of what it imposes on companies that import US goods.
