The King's Prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in El Jadida decided today, Thursday, to place the well-known"streamer" Ilyas El Malki, who has been detained since Monday, in the local prison in the same city.
After extending the theoretical custody for an additional 24 hours yesterday, Wednesday, to deepen the investigation by the judicial police into the charges against him, including possession and consumption of drugs, the Public Prosecution decided to prosecute the detainee while in custody and place him in pretrial detention.
The first session of al-Maliki's trial has been scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, and is expected to draw a large audience.
The person in question was arrested based on complaints filed by a group of trade union and civil bodies for taxi drivers, in light of statements attributed to him, which they considered offensive to them.
During his arrest and search by the judicial police, rolls of hashish were found in his possession, although he denied using them.
Elias Al-Maliki’s family entered into negotiations with the trade union bodies to obtain their waiver of the complaint in order to release their son, after he offered an apology for what was attributed to him, which they were indeed able to do.
This incident comes after the judiciary in El Jadida had convicted Maliki in November 2024 in two cases brought against him by associations from the Amazigh movement and others from the women’s movement. He was punished for the first with a prison sentence of 4 months and a fine of 5,000 dirhams, and he was sentenced to imprisonment for three months and a fine of 2,000 dirhams in the second case.
